New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has announced a gas discovery in the Mahanadi Offshore Basin, around 43 km off the Konark coast of Odisha.
The discovery was made at a depth of 1,441–1,452 metres in the first well drilled under ONGC’s Samudra Manthan campaign in the basin.
Encouraging Results from First Exploration Well
According to the company, the well has indicated encouraging gas flow and reservoir pressure. The results point to the potential of the area and mark a step forward in ONGC’s deepwater exploration programme.
Focus on Frontier and Deepwater Exploration
The discovery is part of ONGC’s efforts to expand India’s domestic hydrocarbon resource base through exploration in frontier and deepwater basins. The Mahanadi Offshore Basin is among the areas being explored as the company seeks to identify new sources of oil and natural gas.
