New Delhi: Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia today inaugurated the AI for Good Lab Workshop at India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 in New Delhi, emphasizing the need to leverage AI to resolve real-world problems and enhance human existence.
Organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the event brought together policymakers, researchers and industry executives to explore the practicality of implementing AI solutions.
Speaking at the conclave, Scindia said the success of AI should be measured based on its benefits to humankind and not on the scale of its models or the complexity of its algorithms.
He also emphasized a need to prevent the digital divide from becoming an AI divide in light of current challenges of connecting nearly two and a half billion individuals globally.
India Highlights AI Infrastructure Push
Scindia spoke about India's achievements in boosting its endowments under the IndiaAI Mission, which has a proposed allocation of over Rs 10,000 crore.
The minister said that there has been an addition of over 38,000 high-end graphics processing units (GPUs) and that another 20,000 are ready to be added to the existing ones.
He also highlighted the Sanchar Saathi platform's success in combating telecom fraud. The system has disconnected over 7.14 crore fraudulent mobile connections, traced more than 35 lakh lost handsets and prevented potential financial fraud worth over Rs 5,000 crore.

India is among the 10 pilot countries in the AI for Good Lab initiative, a multilateral effort that deals with AI policy, skills and public AI infrastructure, including test environments to evaluate AI solutions for trustworthiness before they can be deployed in practice.
The workshop concluded with discussions on enhancing collaboration between governments, industry players, academics, and startups to devise accessible and secure AI solutions.
