
New Delhi: Delegations from BRICS member and partner countries will showcase sports and cultural practices at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, on October 12. This event is being hosted by India as the BRICS chair.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Gujarat government are the organisers. The event will be inaugurated by Hon'ble Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and will be attended by Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, and Dr. Jayram Gamit, Hon’ble Minister of State for Sports of Gujarat.
The event is a showcase, not a competition. The goal is to document sporting practices. It gives practitioners a chance to share knowledge. It also aims to strengthen exchange. It seeks to build people-to-people ties. The announced demonstrations include:
Belarus: Gorodki, Bolivia: Lucha de Cholitas, Tinku, Rayuela, Trompo, Cachinas and Carrera de Sacos, Brazil: Zarabatana (Indigenous Blowpipe), Corrida de Toras (Log Race), Brazilian Para-Jiu-jitsu and Capoeira, China: Wushu, Lion Dance and Health Qigong, Ethiopia: Ethiopian Wrestling (Tegel), Ethiopian Gena (Field Hockey) and Selus Gebeta/18-12/Bube/Shahe, India: Mallakhamb, Yogasana, Kalaripayattu, Iran: Zoorkhaneh, Haft Sang and Ghanieh, Kazakhstan: Asyk Atu, Togyzkumalak and Qazaq Kuresi, Russia: Gorodki and Sambo, South Africa: Kgati and Iintonga, United Arab Emirates: Al Tabbah
Bilateral meetings are planned to discuss sports cooperation and ways to promote traditional games within BRICS.
