New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna CPSE, has discovered natural gas in the Matsyapuri formation in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin, marking a significant discovery in its hydrocarbon exploration initiatives.
The gas source was found in the offshore Discovered Small Field (DSF) block KG-DSF/GSKW/2018, an area operated by OIL.
The company also drilled and checked the Godavari-1 well as an appraisal well in the block. The hydrocarbons came into sight in a single pay zone at a depth of 2024 to 2027 metres.
Production testing of the zone started on 16 October, resulting in natural gas flowing to the surface at a rate of around 1 lakh standard cubic metres per day (SCMD). The maximum flow detected during the entire testing was recorded at 2 lakh SCMD.
The testing recorded a condensate production of about 170 barrels per day (BOPD) with an API gravity of 55.8 at 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The pressure in the well was recorded at 1815 psi.
OIL said preparations were underway to check the next higher-up zone in the well.
This discovery adds to OIL's exploration activities in the KG Basin.
