New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing for the GSLV-F18 mission, which will carry the NVS-03 navigation satellite into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
GSLV-F18 will be the 20th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). The launch is planned from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR.
NVS-03 to Strengthen NavIC Services
NVS-03 is the third satellite in India’s next-generation navigation satellite system. It is designed to maintain continuity of services under the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, known as NavIC.
The satellite will feature an indigenous atomic clock alongside procured atomic clocks. It will also introduce the L1 navigation signal alongside the existing L5 and S signals, supporting wider compatibility with navigation receivers.
NavIC is designed to provide coverage over India and an area extending approximately 1,500 km beyond the country’s geopolitical boundary.
The GSLV-F18 mission is expected to strengthen India’s independent regional navigation capabilities and support the continued availability of NavIC services.
