
New Delhi: Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The discussions centered on the company’s plans to expand its operations and strengthen its presence in India.
This meeting comes as Rolls-Royce aims to grow its engagement with India across sectors such as defence, aviation and energy. The company sees India as a market that is becoming more important for its business.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Rolls-Royce’s interest in expanding its activities in India. He also highlighted the country’s growing talent pool among young professionals.
“It was meeting Mr. Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of Rolls-Royce, earlier today " Modi said. "We welcome Rolls-Royce’s enthusiasm towards scaling up its activities in India and partnering with our dynamic youth."
Tufan Erginbilgic was accompanied by Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President of Rolls-Royce India, during the meeting with the Prime Minister.
Rolls-Royce Eyes Bigger India Footprint
Rolls-Royce has been increasing its focus on India. The company already has an engineering and industrial presence in the country.
According to the company, it currently employs more than 4,000 people across its operations in India. Around 2,800 of these are engineers working on programmes.
Rolls-Royce has manufacturing partnerships with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Force Motors. Its supply network includes than 100 Indian companies.
The company has expanded its Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru. This centre supports engineering, digital and other global functions.
Company Looks At India As Key Growth Market
Rolls-Royce is actively exploring opportunities to grow its role in India’s defence, aviation and energy sectors.
The company has said that a larger footprint in India could lead to local sourcing and greater involvement of Indian suppliers.
The discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi come at a time when India is focused on building domestic capabilities in aerospace, defence and advanced engineering. At the same time, global companies are looking to strengthen their supply chains in India.
The meeting is expected to deepen conversations around technology, manufacturing and partnerships. Rolls-Royce is looking to build on its existing presence in India and grow its role in the country’s development.
