New Delhi: NTPC Limited has invited commercial and industrial entities to express interest in taking a 26% equity stake in cogeneration projects that would supply both steam and electricity to industrial users. The state-run power producer announced the initiative on October 11 as part of its push to expand industrial energy solutions.
The projects are expected to be supported by integrated power supply arrangements combining coal based generation, renewable energy and battery energy storage systems. NTPC said the facilities would be designed around long term supply contracts with industrial customers.
Co-generation, also known as heat and power creates electricity and useful heat, like steam from a single system. NTPC said this approach can boost energy efficiency and help industries control costs ensure energy supplies and reach sustainability goals.
It also widens the company’s energy portfolio beyond power generation.
The installed capacity of NTPC stands at 91 GW at present, and more than 35 GW are under construction. By 2032, NTPC plans to achieve a total capacity of 149 GW, out of which 60 GW will come from renewable energy sources. Apart from this, it has entered into several other domains such as energy storage, e-mobility, waste to energy, nuclear power and green hydrogen.
