New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) to explore investments in power generation, coal gasification and mineral processing in Odisha.
The highlight of the proposal is a 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical coal-based thermal power plant, planned with four units of 800 MW each. The project could involve an investment of around Rs 35,000 crore and create employment for approximately 4,000 people, according to the company.
The second MoU covers a beach sand mineral processing facility, with a tentative investment of Rs 2,000 crore. This facility is expected to generate around 500 jobs.
Under a separate agreement, NLC India will assess the technical feasibility of coal gasification in Odisha and the production of synthesis gas (Syn-Gas) for potential use in the fertiliser sector. The proposal will examine possible links between coal gasification and fertiliser manufacturing.
The MoUs were signed in Mumbai on 22 October by I.S. Jasper Rose, Executive Director (Mines and Land) at NLC India, and Aboli Sunil Naravane, Managing Director of IPICOL.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Industries Department Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma and NLC India Chairman-cum-Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Acharya attended the signing ceremony.
The proposed investments are expected to support Odisha's power capacity, mineral processing industry and employment generation. The coal gasification initiative could also open up opportunities to link domestic coal resources with fertiliser production.
