Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Limited has delivered Amini, an indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), to the Indian Navy on 5 November 2026.
Designed for Shallow-Water Anti-Submarine Operations
The ASW shallow-water craft built by GRSE have been designed and constructed in accordance with the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
Among the largest Indian naval warships propelled by waterjets, these vessels are equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers, and sonar systems. The equipment enables them to detect and engage underwater threats, while strengthening the Navy's anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance and mine-laying capabilities.
Named After Lakshadweep Island
The ship takes its name from Amini Island in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. It also carries forward the legacy of the erstwhile INS Amini, a Petya III-class anti-submarine warfare corvette that was decommissioned in 2002.
Over 80% Indigenous Content
With more than 80% indigenous content, Amini reflects the growing role of domestic defence manufacturers in naval shipbuilding. Its delivery marks another milestone in the Indian Navy's efforts to strengthen indigenous capabilities in line with the Government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and reduce dependence on imports.
