New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched the upgraded Agri Welfare Portal to help farmers access government schemes, financial assistance, and agricultural information through their mobile phones.
The portal aims to bring services of the Agriculture Ministry under a single platform, allowing farmers to check scheme details and submit applications without visiting multiple government offices or websites.
Chouhan said the initiative is aimed at making government services more accessible to farmers through digital technology. He also stressed the need to keep the portal updated and ensure that its features and language remain simple, particularly for small and marginal farmers.
The platform will bring together information on major government schemes, including PM-KISAN, AgriStack and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. It will also provide details on subsidies, eligibility criteria, rules and other services offered by the ministry.
According to the ministry, the portal is designed to work on basic smartphones and in areas with weak internet connectivity. It will also provide information on weather conditions, scientific farming practices, seed and fertiliser availability, and market prices for agricultural produce.
The platform includes accessibility features for persons with disabilities, including support for screen readers and simpler navigation.
Chouhan also directed officials to ensure that the information available on the portal remains accurate and regularly updated. A training campaign will be conducted through Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country to help farmers use the portal and other digital services.
The upgraded platform is expected to simplify access to government assistance and reduce the time farmers spend navigating different schemes and services.
